2019 Goals Update

At the start of the year I wrote a post about what I wanted to achieve this year. As we are now halfway through the year (which is just crazy! This year is flying by) I thought it would be a good time to look back at my goals and see how I am getting on with them.

Get a new job

I finished my degree in August and I had my graduation ceremony in January so I am really looking to find a job that is to do with my degree. Don’t get wrong my current job isn’t the worst job in the world; it pays the bills and allows us to go on holiday and save money but it isn’t my dream career. So I haven’t found a new job yet but I have been applying for ones that I like. I have had a couple of interviews so far this year; the last interview went so well and I really wanted the job but unfortunately they said I don’t have enough experience, which is annoying. How can you get experience if you can’t get a job? There is still 6 months until the end of the year and I am doing my best for this goal.

Get to my target weight

I have since decided that I may change my target weight. I am not 100% sure what weight I would like to be so I am just going to keep losing weight until I am happy and comfortable. Since January I have lost nearly 1.5 stone and I’ve just celebrated 1 year at slimming world. If I stick to my original target weight I might not get to it this year but I’m sure I would get to my potential new target weight. I’m not putting too much pressure on myself; I’m losing weight at a good rate and I’m very happy.

Go on more walks

This is a goal that I have achieved. We make sure we take Rory for a walk every day after work and we go for bigger walks on a weekend. There are some weekends where we end up being busy but we do still try and take Rory for a walk. I also wanted to go on more picturesque places which we haven’t yet got to. We usually go to places we have already been too but in the summer when the weather is better (hopefully) we’ll start finding new places to go for a walk.

Save money

Saving money is going well so far. Joe and I are saving a certain amount each month in our joint account. The money we save is going towards a house deposit, so we have set up help to buy schemes which will also help us. I feel like we are saving money at a good rate. I do also try and save as much as I can in my own account each month. I budget a set amount of spending money and any extra I have that month will go straight into my savings.

Read more books

This one has been a bit of a fail. For Christmas I got The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris, I have read the majority of it; I only have a few pages left. Last year I think I read 2 or 3 books so I can easily beat that number this year. I already know which book I would like I read next but I just need to finish this one first. I will finish it this week I promise.

Grow my blog

My blog has definitely grown since the start of the year. I set two goals for how many followers I wanted to get this year; the lower number seemed almost too achievable but the higher number made me unsure if I would get it. I am very happy to say that I am currently in the middle of those two figures. I am pleased with how my blog is growing. I have started interacting with more bloggers on Twitter which I really enjoy. I have also very recently expanded to YouTube. I decided to start making YouTube videos as I really enjoy watching them so I thought I would give it ago. So far I have only made a couple videos but I’m happy with how it is going. I am excited to see how my blog are Youtube channel go the rest of the year.

I think I’m not doing too badly with my goals. I’m making good progress on a lot of them and I am determined to achieve all my goals in the next 6 months!

How are you getting on with your goals/ resolutions?

Thanks for reading

  1. I really hope you can achieve your goals soon! Personally, I want to finish all my exams by the end of the year, focus on my writing and finding happiness in the small things ❤

    1. Thank you! Those are some great goals. I wish you all the best with your exams x

  2. Great update and I don’t think you failed when it comes to reading. Even reading one book a year is more than what the majority of the world population reads. Because I have a lot of family members and friends who never read.

    1. Thank you. That is a very good point x

  3. I’m really glad that you’ve achieved some of your goals already! You’ve done amazing! I haven’t looked at my goals since January so I may have to remind myself! xD

  5. It definitely sounds like you’ve made a good start on your goals for 2019! Also, love your positivity about your job – whilst it may not be ideal, you’re still focusing on the pros rather than the cons! I think it’s such an important thing

    1. Thank you! I agree, you have to look on the good things and not focus on the negatives
